Percussion at YSM
Percussionists at the Yale School of Music study and perform chamber, solo, and orchestral repertoire in a program that is unique in its breadth. Students participate in weekly private lessons and studio seminar and play in the Yale Philharmonia and the Yale Percussion Group. The School’s New Music New Haven concert series offers frequent opportunities to collaborate with composers on premieres of new works, fostering musical relationships that continue long after students' time at Yale.
Alumni from the School’s percussion program have gone on to form and join such notable ensembles as The Percussion Collective, Sō Percussion, Sandbox Percussion, Oslo Philharmonic, and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and teach at universities and conservatories throughout the United States at such institutions as the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, University of Maryland, and California Institute of the Arts.
