Ron Cohen Mann '16AD named semi-finalist in Ima Hogg Competition
Oboist Ron Cohen Mann '16 AD has been named a semi-finalist in the Houston Symphony's Ima Hogg Competition. Cohen Mann is one of ten semi-finalists that will compete in June to be named a finalist, receiving the opportunity to perform with the Houston Symphony and receive cash prizes up to $25,000.
Cohen Mann was recently heard in the Yale in New York concert, With Pluck: Music for Harp, in a performance of Pasculli's Omaggio a Bellini with harpist Noël Wan in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. He can also be heard in the Competition Winners Concert on May 10, 7:30pm at Morse Recital Hall in Sprague Memorial Hall.

Ron Cohen Mann is an Artist Diploma candidate at the Yale School of Music, studying with Stephen Taylor. He completed his Master of Music at Mannes School of Music, studying with Sherry Sylar of the New York Philharmonic, and his Bachelor of Music at the University of British Columbia under the tutelage of Beth Orson, where he was awarded the UBC Medal in Music.
Cohen Mann was a prizewinner at the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal Standard Life Competition 2014, and the winner of the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition 2013 and Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award 2015. He is a current semi-finalist in the Ima Hogg Competition 2016, in which he will compete for the opportunity to perform a concerto alongside the Houston Symphony in June 2016. He maintains an active solo and chamber music schedule through frequent recitals.
His 2015-2016 season includes recital performances in New York City at Carnegie Hall, Toronto, Vancouver, and New Haven, CT. Cohen Mann particularly looks forward to a tour of Latvia, Estonia and Russia in June 2016 with Schola Cantorum of Yale under Maestro David Hill to perform Arvo Pärt’s Passio.
Cohen Mann has performed in various orchestras including The Manhattan Symphonie, L’Orchestre de la Francophonie, The National Academy Orchestra of Canada, Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, and The National Youth Orchestra of Canada in performances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully and David Geffen Halls (Lincoln Center), Symphony Space (NYC), Koerner Hall (Toronto), Notre Dame Basilica and Maison Symphonique (Montreal), among others. He has toured to India, China, and throughout Canada and the United States and played under eminent conductors including Valery Gergiev, Peter Oundjian, John Adams, Jonathan Darlington, Alain Trudel, and Carolyn Kuan.
