Bassoonist Yen-Chen Wu wins second prize in Koussevitzky Young Artist Award Competition

Bassoon student Yen-Chen Wu '16MM won second prize in the Serge & Olga Koussevitzky Young Artist Award Competition. The finals took place yesterday at the Liederkranz Hall in New York City.

The Serge & Olga Koussevitzky Young Artist Awards, sponsored by the Musicians Club of New York, took place April 24–26, 2015. This year's competition, which is open to instrumentalists ages 18–30, was for winds and brass players; the event cycles annually through strings, piano, winds/brass, and voice.

Yen-Chen Wu began studying the bassoon in Tainan, Taiwan at the age of nine. During her school years, she was the principal bassoon of the Tainan Symphony Orchestra and a member of both the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Asian Youth Orchestra.

During her time in Taiwan, she won numerous awards, including first prize in the Tainan student competition several times, the National Taiwan student competition, and the TMUE, TNGS, and TWO concerto competition. She also won second prize at the second Asian Double Reed Association International Solo Competition. Wu is a first-year student at the Yale School of Music, where she studies with Frank Morelli.
